Top Five Tips to Stay Safe in the Sun

by 52alderleyrd | Posted 13 June 2014

If you are planning a staycation or a tropical vacation, Dr Nuala O’Donoghue, Consultant Dermatologist at 52 Alderley Road, gives her top five tips for staying safe in the sun.

1. Dress like an Italian; long, loose and stylish rather than small and tight. Add shades.

2. Treat yourself to a few fashionable hats and wear them with panache. Sunscreen the parts that cannot be covered.

3. Holiday like a Spaniard; enjoy a long lunch in the shade and a snooze afterwards (or a trip to a gallery or mall).

4. If you like to look brown – fake it. Never allow yourself to burn. We all need some sun exposure to get vitamin D but there is no need to tan to achieve this.

5. Keep an eye on your moles. If you notice any changes or have concerns, see your GP who can refer you to a consultant dermatologist if necessary.
