52 Alderley Road welcomes visiting Physiotherapist
18 March 2015
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Professor Len Funk, who specialises in Shoulder Surgery and Sports Medicine, invited Samantha Durnian, who is a Sports Injury Physiotherapist and owner at A6 Physiotherapy, into the hospital to witness shoulder surgery being performed, meet with his specialist team and practice her technique on the region’s only private shoulder simulator.
Samantha said:”I was delighted to be asked into The Wilmslow Hospital at 52 Alderley Road to watch Professor Len Funk in action during surgery and learn more about the patient journey, which has given me a better insight and increased my knowledge.”
Professor Funk and Samantha have been working together for more than six years and have successfully provided a number of patients with enhanced end-to-end care; pre-habilitation, surgery and re-habilitation.
Len Funk added: “In healthcare, patients are at the heart of everything we do, and the more that surgeons and physiotherapists communicate and collaborate, the quicker the recovery time and better the outcome for the patient.
“I started out my clinical career studying sports physiology and worked briefly as a physiotherapy assistant before moving into medicine, so I have a first-hand understanding and appreciation of the importance of the role that physiotherapists play in the pre and post-operative care of patients.”
Professor Len Funk is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Shoulder Surgery and Sports Medicine at The Wilmslow Hospital, 52 Alderley Road and a member of The Arm Clinic. To book a consultation with Professor Funk or for more information please call 01625 545 036.
