Laura obtained a BSc (Hons) in Public Health Nutrition in 2002. Due to her desire to work directly with patients she went on to do a post-graduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics. This qualified her as a state registered dietitian in 2004.

Laura had an interest in the field of gastroenterology from the start and this led her to do her Masters research in 2005 into the 'nutritional adequacy of the gluten free diet in adult patients with coeliac disease'. This research was published and Laura was asked to present her findings in 2007 at the International coeliac symposium.

Laura has worked within the NHS since 2005. Initially she worked at Aintree University NHS Foundation Trust in a rotational role covering stroke, intensive care, renal, head and neck cancer and diabetes. In 2007 Laura specialised in the field of gastroenterology and was clinical lead dietitian for the Digestive Disease Unit. She was appointed as the senior specialist dietitian for gastroenterology at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2009 and continues in this role. Within this role she is the clinical lead dietitian for the gastroenterology team which provide a service to the gastroenterology and colorectal surgery inpatient wards and an extensive outpatient service.

Laura is highly trained on the low FODMAP diet, an extremely successful way of treating people with irritable bowel syndrome and similar disorders. Laura has established a successful service for implementation of this diet. Her areas of expertise include coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, gastroparesis, food intolerance, short bowel syndrome, nutrition support and dietetic management of all diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Laura started her private practice in 2009 and accepts referrals from gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons.  Laura has her consulting rooms at The Wilmslow Hospital and has a clinic Tuesday evening, Friday afternoon and Saturday mornings,

As well as research on coeliac disease, Laura has also carried out research on inflammatory bowel disease. Laura has articles published on coeliac disease, patient views on nutritional issues in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the nutritional management of gastroparesis, perioperative nutritional support in ovarian cancer and primary intestinal lymphangiectasia.

Laura is a proactive member for the British Association of Dietetics and was the treasurer of the North West and North Wales Branch from 2007- 2011 and was the meetings organiser for the Gastroenterology Specialist Group from 2012-2015. Laura has also been a visiting lecturer at Chester University training postgraduate dietetic students.
