Professional Interests –
Richard started working in the field of Vascular Technology in the Autumn following the completion of his degree. In 1995, he became a member of the Society of Vascular Technology of GB and Ireland. Having received his professional accreditation he was invited to sit on the SVT Education Committee where he was initially responsible for attending meetings for CASE (Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education) and became Honorary secretary from 1999 – 2002. He subsequently became responsible for the Technology exam, which is taken every May. He was on the Education Committee for 6 years and during that time helped organise study days and national theory exams.
Throughout his 20 years in the field of vascular ultrasound he has continued to be dedicated to the diagnosis of vascular disease. He has a keen interest in carotid/cardiac surgery and cerebral perfusion injuries and has been involved in a number of research papers. He is an enthusiastic supporter of the SVT and in 2007 presented a paper “ Differential Diagnoses of Infrapopliteal Aneurysms” and was awarded the Circulation Foundation prize.

One of his main goals over the last couple of years was achieving UKAS accreditation at five of our vascular labs in the NW. IVS is still the only vascular labs in the country to have achieved UKAS accreditation. It is a massive testament to the hard work of our staff. In 2015 he was awarded the “Anne Donald Vascular Scientist of the year” award by the SVT for his work on UKAS.

“Since the conception of IVS in 1999, I have always been involved in its development becoming Operations Manager then Director. The managerial role has been challenging but very rewarding helping to drive our successful business”
“I am dedicated to ensure that IVS maintains a high level of investigation and robust reporting. Our main strength lies in our staff, I am dedicated to maintain a well trained, contented and well motivated team”
