Biography

Mr Panayiotis Kyzas is a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He specialises in Head and Neck Oncological Surgery (ablation and reconstruction), laser surgery, facial aesthetics and has a particular interest and case-portfolio for 3D printer – guided, patient specific, personalised surgery (PSP).

                Mr Kyzas was born in Cyprus. He was valedictorian for his student graduation year. He has represented his country in numerous International Olympiads in Chemistry and Mathematics. He has won the bronze medal in the 1996 Chemistry Olympiad. He then studied Dentistry and graduated with Honours, first amongst all the dental students. Following that, he studied Medicine and graduated again with Honours. Throughout both his undergraduate degrees he was awarded numerous awards and scholarships.

                Mr Kyzas has undertaken postgraduate training in the UK and completeed the UK Higher Specialty Training Programme for OMFS (CCT OMFS). Subsequently, he completed one of the very few and prestigious UK-wide Training Interface (TIG) Fellowships in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology to become an accredited Head and Neck Surgeon (JCST).

In 2014 he was appointed as a substantive Consultant OMFS H&N Surgeon in Manchester. He has treated hundreds of patients with Head and Neck cancer, offering state of the art major ablative and reconstructive surgery. His specialises in microvascular free tissue transfer and he has introduced and developed the 3D printer – personalised planning (PSP) reconstructive surgery in his hospital. Besides head and neck cancer, Mr Kyzas offers treatment to patients with facial skin cancer, oral and maxillofacial trauma, dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery, salivary gland diseases, facial cosmetic surgery, surgery of the temporomandibular joint, and anything else within the broad spectrum of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has a special interest in the use of laser for oral pathologies.

                Mr Kyzas has a long history of involvement in medical research. He has completed a PhD thesis which has resulted in several highly cited publications in prestigious medical journals. He has participated in international collaborations for the improvement of medical research (http://progress-partnership.org/publications) and some of his papers have had a significant impact in improving research methodology. He is a panel member for the selection comittess for trainees in every level in OMFS in the UK. He is a regular peer-reviewer for many medical journals. He is the Lead trainer for the TIG H&N fellowship for his hospital and the Research Lead for his Deanery. He is the Principal Investigator for many clinical trials. He is a faculty member for surgical courses endorsed by the RCSEd. He is a Lecturer at the University of Manchester and offers themed training in Head and Neck Oncological Surgery to medical students. In 2018 he was awrded the «Surgical Educator Excdllence Award» by HEENW. As from 2019, he is the Clinical Lead for H&N Cancer in Northern Care Alliance. In 2018 Mr Kyzas was elected a Deputy Editor for the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (BJOMS).
