Biography

Mr Padman Phaltankar is an Orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in knee and hip surgery. He holds an NHS consultant post at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Phaltankar underwent specialist Orthopaedic training at St George's Hospital, London. He has undertaken knee fellowships in Newcastle and Edinburgh. During his knee fellowships he received extensive training in all aspects of knee surgery including sports knee injury and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery. He has been working as a specialist knee and hip surgeon in Manchester since 2005. He undertakes a large number of surgical procedures related to the knee and the hip in his NHS and private practice. Apart from total knee replacements, he undertakes partial knee replacements for young patients with knee arthritis. A large part of his surgical practice involves arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery for problems related to knee cartilage. He undertakes arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using hamstring tendons. He performs realignment procedures for arthritic knees with deformity. He offers realignment procedures for recurrent dislocation of the knee cap. He performs hip injections and total hip replacements to treat hip arthritis He is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) as well as British Orthopaedic Association and keeps himself updated by attending courses and seminars on a regular basis. His research interest focuses on the various aspects of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. He has published a number of papers in peer reviewed journals focussing on the current practice in knee surgery. He has a keen interest in cricket and keeps himself fit by swimming regularly.
