My passion is surgery around the knee and also the hip. My specialist interests are in sports injuries and trauma related pathology of the knee as well surgery for degenerative pathology. Sports / Trauma: ACL reconstruction / Multi-ligament recon. ; Meniscal repair / resection ; Patello-femoral instability / MPFL reconstruction / Tibial tubercle transfer Degenerative: Knee and Hip Replacement; Partial replacement ; High tibial osteotomy ; Cartilage regeneration (if suitable) ; Revision knee replacement

Bilal is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery. He grew up in Manchester, attending Bolton School where he was School Captain in his final year, excelling both academically and in sporting pursuits including representing his school at 1st XV rugby. He studied medicine at The University of Edinburgh from which he graduated in 2004. After completing his house officer year, Bilal spent time at the University of Oxford undertaking a prosectorship, teaching anatomy, which developed his grounding and a passion for surgery. Following his basic surgical training, he gained entry into higher specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery, both on the Northwest rotation. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and has completed a Fellowship in knee surgery, becoming a specialist in this field. He completed his training in July 2014, and secured a position as a consultant at Salford Royal NHS Teaching Foundation Trust. He is passionate about the NHS and is involved in a number of quality improvement projects at Salford Royal, helping to deliver the highest possible level of care for the Salford residents. During his career, he has published numerous peer reviewed research articles and continues his interest in research. This includes current collaborations with the University of Manchester and Salford University looking into stem cell research and biomaterials. It was as a medical student that Bilal passion for Orthopaedic surgery was ignited after injuring his knee in a football match. He required an ACL reconstruction to get him back to sport, and ever since he has understood the importance of getting people back to full activity; whether as a high level athlete or just to keep fit. Bilal ensures that his surgical practice is delivered to an exceptionally high standard, and prides himself on making the correct decisions for and with his patients, ensuring excellent clinical results and happy patients.
