Adebanji graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan in 1988. He undertook his basic and middle grade surgical training with distinction in Dublin, Ireland before moving to the northwest of England in 1997 for higher surgical training which was completed in 2002. Adebanji was appointed as Consultant Urological Surgeon at Stepping Hill Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2002 and also runs, with his colleagues, a service at Macclesfield General Hospital, Tameside Hospital and Buxton Cottage Hospital. He plays an active role locally, regionally and nationally in the teaching and training of both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors and surgeons. As a urologist, his subspecialist interests include medical treatment and minimally invasive endoscopic surgery for prostate enlargement and urinary tract stones (both kidney and ureteric), and he has pioneered laparoscopic surgery in the northwest of England for upper urinary tract indications e.g. laparoscopic nephrectomy (for benign and malignant disease), laparoscopic pyeloplasty (for pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction) and adrenalectomy (for benign and malignant disease).
