Rapid Access Breast Clinic

Having a health concern can be a worrying and stressfull time, so our rapid access breast clinic allows you to book in for a triple assesment with in 48 hours of calling us and then can expect results of your assesment within another 48 hours. Tests are carried out using state of- the-art imaging equipment, reducing the number of times patients need to be scanned, decreasing waiting times and speeding up diagnosis.

What is a Triple Assessment?

  1. Mammogram – a set of x-rays of the breast, used to diagnose breast symptoms in women over 35.
  2. Ultrasound scan – a form of imaging that uses high frequency sound waves to investigate the inside of the breast. This is commonly used for women under 35 or as a further investigation in older women.
  3. Breast biopsies e.g. core needle biopsy, fine needle aspirate cytology (FNAC), stereotactic core needle biopsy – these use a fine needle, guided by ultrasound or x-ray, to remove a sample of tissue to test.

When you arrive

Your comfort during your visit is our priority. From the moment you arrive at The Wilmslow Hospital, our supportive nursing staff and helpful administrative teams will be here to ensure you experience first-class healthcare.

A standard Mammogram itself will usually take between 10-15 minutes.

Before your mammogram you will be asked to remove all jewellery that might interefere or affect the X-Ray. You will be taken to a private dressing room to change into a gown in our private women’s health unit. Once escorted to the mammogram room from your private waiting area, you will be asked to stand in front on the machine where the technician will position you for the scan.

Once the mammogram scan is complete you will be able to get changed and return to the waiting area before your consultant discusses your next steps with you.
